Madagascar, the world’s fourth-largest island, lies about 300 miles east of southern Africa, across the Mozambique Channel. Madagascar has a vast number of different species, many found nowhere else and it is best known for its lemurs, colorful chameleons, stunning orchids, and towering baobab trees. It is home to some of the world’s most unique flora and fauna. The country boasts a few world heritage sites: the Royal Hill of Ambohimanga, a 500-year-old burial site, the rainforests of the Atsinanana, and the Tsingy de Bemaraha Strict Nature Reserve with its labyrinth of limestone.
