Discover Maastricht through a free walk with a local

Maastricht has a long history, and its streets have retained much the same layout for centuries. Surrounded by Flemish, Walloon and German regions, it is probably the least Dutch city in the country. This can be seen in the different styles of building, and in a different way of life and culture, more connected to its neighbours than to “Holland”.

Alongside authentic Maastricht dialect, Dutch, French and German, you will hear a host of other languages spoken by the city’s international population. Wander through the city streets, alleyways, squares and along the ancient city walls. Pause at one of the many cafes and bars or choose to eat at one of the dozens of restaurants the city is proud of. In short – there is certainly no need to be bored in Maastricht!

Remember: A Greet means meeting a local resident to walk around town with you as new friends. The first step will be to talk to the Greeter about the details of your personalized tour. It's not about taking part in a standardized tour, but about exploring the city with an expert volunteer .

Maximum six people!

Our core value #2 reads "Greeters welcome individuals and may serve small groups of up to six people."
The reason is that each Greet should be an opportunity to talk to each other and that seems impossible in bigger groups.
Also important: we do not mingle people from different requests but serve only you (and your friends).

Meet a local volunteer

Our core value #1  reads "Greeters are volunteers, a friendly face for those visiting a city."
It's true: Our Greeters love their city or town and they are proud to share this with guests.
How could you better discover the most interesting spots of a place?

Free service, no tipping

Our core value #3 reads "Meeting a Greeter is free of charge."
We do not follow a "give what you think is ok (but please give)" strategy. Greeters honestly do not like any tipping because what they give comes from their heart not because of any tipping expectation.
If you would like to support the Greeters as a whole you are welcome to donate to the International Greeter Association here.

We had a wonderful walk with Greeter Paul! Maastricht is a very pleasant little town, which we had already explored a little the evening before. But on our walk with Paul we discovered lots of new things, including little things along the way that we hadn’t even noticed, even though we had walked past them yesterday. Paul explained the background and was open to all our questions. This also made for great conversations, which we continued in a cozy café after the greet. It was a wonderful experience! Paul, we thank you so much!
