Rome Greeters
Free Walk with a Local
Discover Rome through a free walk with a Local
Rome, the Eternal City, draws visitors into its endless layers of history and its vibrant street life. Lose yourself in the city’s ancient cobblestone streets, discover the traces of Titus, and feel the spirit of forgotten empires echoing through time. Marvel in awe at the Trevi Fountain, toss a coin in, and you’re guaranteed to return, or step inside what is arguably Italy’s most impressive and best-preserved temple, the Pantheon, which is always free to visit. But Rome is also home to charming piazzas, bustling markets, and hidden corners full of character, just waiting to be discovered. Would you like to experience the real Rome and explore its secret paths? Turn to Rome Greeters and their enthusiastic local guides. They offer free, personalized walks for visitors, showcasing the daily Roman life, delighting curious culinary explorers, and sharing the true stories behind the city—all of which bring Rome’s tangible history and vibrant street life to life.
Rome Greeters are volunteers who give guests an authentic insight into life of their city. They are not city guides. For guided tour of monuments and museums, please visit tour guides website. The meetings focus on the dialog between guests and greeters. All guests can expect the kind of walk you would take with friends, a conversation at eye level about cities where guests and greeters live.

Remember: A Greet means meeting a local resident to walk around town with you as new friends. The first step will be to talk to the Greeter about the details of your personalized tour. It's not about taking part in a standardized tour, but about exploring the city with an expert volunteer .
Maximum six people!
Our core value #2 reads "Greeters welcome individuals and may serve small groups of up to six people."
The reason is that each Greet should be an opportunity to talk to each other and that seems impossible in bigger groups.
Also important: we do not mingle people from different requests but serve only you (and your friends).
Meet a local volunteer
Our core value #1 reads "Greeters are volunteers, a friendly face for those visiting a city."
It's true: Our Greeters love their city or town and they are proud to share this with guests.
How could you better discover the most interesting spots of a place?
Free service, no tipping
Our core value #3 reads "Meeting a Greeter is free of charge."
We do not follow a "give what you think is ok (but please give)" strategy. Greeters honestly do not like any tipping because what they give comes from their heart not because of any tipping expectation.
If you would like to support the Greeters as a whole you are welcome to donate to the International Greeter Association here.
