International Greeter Association

What is the International Greeter Association?

The International Greeter Association (IGA) is the global umbrella organisation that connects official Greeter destinations around the world. It is registered as a non‑profit international association (AISBL) under Belgian law and based in Brussels, bringing together independent Greeter organisations that commit to shared core values and guidelines. Through networking, support and advocacy, the IGA helps Greeter destinations strengthen their programmes, cooperate with cities and tourism partners, and promote people‑to‑people encounters as a valuable form of social tourism.

What is the mission of the International Greeter Association?

The mission of the International Greeter Association is to support and connect Greeter destinations worldwide and to safeguard the core values of the Greeter movement. The IGA promotes free, small‑scale visits with volunteer hosts as a unique way to experience cities and regions through authentic, people‑to‑people encounters. By fostering collaboration between Greeter groups, cities and tourism organisations, the association helps make urban tourism more sustainable, more inclusive and more human.

Governance and Structure

The International Greeter Association is a democratic, member‑based organisation in which official Greeter destinations are represented and participate in decision‑making. As an AISBL under Belgian law, the IGA operates with a governing board and a set of statutes that define its purpose, membership, and internal procedures. Assemblies are held every year in presence or online. Manager meetings and global IGA Conventions are platforms for working on relevant topics, develop ideas and foster the network.
