Sydney has plenty to offer with its beautiful harbour and lively atmosphere. One of the best ways to really get a feel for the city is by experiencing it away from the tourist trail. Why not join one of our Sydney Greeters who can show you around their city? You‘ll go on your own personalised walk with a local exploring backstreets and learning more about life in Sydney than you would from a tourist guidebook. Whatever your interests – top restaurants or cheap-eats in hidden laneways, a walk of discovery in the picturesque Royal Botanic Garden or stunning views of the harbour from surrounding suburbs – our volunteers can help.
A Sydney Greeter will offer advice on where to go (either to explore the city or a unique surrounding suburb), how to get there, fascinating and unusual history, award winning architecture and at the same time share amusing anecdotes about the city that only a Sydney-sider would know. You have heard about the friendliness of Australians – it’s all true! You will have a warm welcome waiting for you.

Remember: A Greet means meeting a local resident to walk around town with you as new friends. The first step will be to talk to the Greeter about the details of your personalized tour. It's not about taking part in a standardized tour, but about exploring the city with an expert volunteer .
Maximum six people!
Our core value #2 reads "Greeters welcome individuals and may serve small groups of up to six people."
The reason is that each Greet should be an opportunity to talk to each other and that seems impossible in bigger groups.
Also important: we do not mingle people from different requests but serve only you (and your friends).

It's true: Our Greeters love their city or town and they are proud to share this with guests.

Free service, no tipping
Our core value #3 reads "Meeting a Greeter is free of charge."
We do not follow a "give what you think is ok (but please give)" strategy. Greeters honestly do not like any tipping because what they give comes from their heart not because of any tipping expectation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour with Ros. I had expressed an interest in Art Deco architecture and she showed us some places we would never have found ourselves, for example the former Gowings department store. She spent 4 hours with just the 2 of us and we chatted along the way, exchanging stories. It was very easy to chat to Ros. She took photos of us on the tour which she kindly emailed to me. We would definitely recommend a Sydney Greeters tour to others and in fact have already done so.
Robyn was an absolute highlight of my Sydney trip. She is incredibly knowledgeable about Sydney and Australian culture, and I genuinely enjoyed both learning from her and simply spending time with her. She was also extremely helpful in providing recommendations for our trip and her guidance on navigating the transit system was invaluable. Her personality is fun, relaxed, and easy-going, and she fit naturally with my own style, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I only wish I’d had more time with her. Meeting Robyn has inspired me to seek out similar international greeter programs in other cities I visit.
