Discover Moscow through a free walk with a Local

Discover Moscow, a city where ancient grandeur effortlessly meets contemporary life. Beyond the grand avenues, a rich tapestry of experiences awaits your exploration. Begin your journey in the iconic Red Square, standing in awe of the vibrant, candy-striped domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral from its exterior, a truly breathtaking and unforgettable sight.

To truly uncover Moscow’s authentic character and atmosphere, consider joining a walking tour with a Greeter. These guided strolls are fantastic for revealing charming hidden gems tucked away in historic alleyways and quiet courtyards, offering a deeper immersion into local life and culture. They are offered by enthusiastic local volunteers who share their city’s daily rhythms, insights, and lesser-known spots, ensuring you experience Moscow like a true insider, far from the typical tourist trail.

Explore the vast green spaces of Zaryadye Park, with its unique floating bridge offering panoramic Kremlin views. Whether drawn to grand history or intimate discoveries, Moscow promises an unforgettable journey through its vibrant heart.

A walk in Moscow just for you and completely free of charge
During an individual walk just for you, your friends or family (a maximum party of 6) -we call them Greets- , a volunteer of Moscow Greeters will show you their city as they would a friend. They love to show their city to visitors and enjoy meeting people from all over the world. There is no tipping involved and no large groups. Your walk will be tailored specifically to you and your interests.

Remember: A Greet means meeting a local resident to walk around town with you as new friends. The first step will be to talk to the Greeter about the details of your personalized tour. It's not about taking part in a standardized tour, but about exploring the city with an expert volunteer .

Maximum six people!

Our core value #2 reads "Greeters welcome individuals and may serve small groups of up to six people."
The reason is that each Greet should be an opportunity to talk to each other and that seems impossible in bigger groups.
Also important: we do not mingle people from different requests but serve only you (and your friends).

Moscow Greeters have undertaken to comply with the IGA Core Values.

Meet a local volunteer

Our core value #1  reads "Greeters are volunteers, a friendly face for those visiting a city."
It's true: Our Greeters love their city or town and they are proud to share this with guests.
How could you better discover the most interesting spots of a place?

Free service, no tipping

Our core value #3 reads "Meeting a Greeter is free of charge."
We do not follow a "give what you think is ok (but please give)" strategy. Greeters honestly do not like any tipping because what they give comes from their heart not because of any tipping expectation.
If you would like to support the Greeters as a whole you are welcome to donate to the International Greeter Association here.

I can only recommend to come to Moscow and have a greet here. We met near Kremlin and had a most interesting walk through Kitajgorod. Never in my live would I have found those places. Remainders of original Kremlin walls, the oldest houses in Moscow that are still existing, a labourers’ market …
Additionally I found out that Maksim can wonderfully explain the architectural periods in Russia, which differ widely to the ones in Europe.
And he is a great guy, very helpful!
Thanks again for a very special greet, I appreciated it very much.
