Eastern Styria Greeters
Free Walk with a Local
Discover Eastern Styria through a free walk with a Local
A compelling destination in Austria presenting a harmonious combination of nature, history, and cultural expressions. Rather than visiting the destination, Eastern Styria draws the traveler into the special charisma of the area with its orchards and castles waiting to be explored. Every trip to Eastern Styria must also cover a visit to the daunting Riegersburg Castle situated atop a volcanic rock. This historic fortress features an unparalleled view and a fascinating voyage through history, complete with a falconry demonstration.
However, to fully understand the genuine spirit of this place, contacting the Eastern Styria Greeters is highly recommended. Passionate locals, these volunteers conduct free walking tours, keen to share their insider stories, leading you to discover the best hidden gems. A quaint village square that may not figure in any tourist guide, as well as an unmetered vineyard pour samples, awaits you, and all this is arranged by the Greeters. Get insider information about what transpires in this place every day, all the secrets about culinary delicacies, and stories that give this place so much charm.

Remember: A Greet means meeting a local resident to walk around town with you as new friends. The first step will be to talk to the Greeter about the details of your personalized tour. It's not about taking part in a standardized tour, but about exploring the city with an expert volunteer .
Maximum six people!
Our core value #2 reads "Greeters welcome individuals and may serve small groups of up to six people."
The reason is that each Greet should be an opportunity to talk to each other and that seems impossible in bigger groups.
Also important: we do not mingle people from different requests but serve only you (and your friends).
Meet a local volunteer
Our core value #1 reads "Greeters are volunteers, a friendly face for those visiting a city."
It's true: Our Greeters love their city or town and they are proud to share this with guests.
How could you better discover the most interesting spots of a place?
Free service, no tipping
Our core value #3 reads "Meeting a Greeter is free of charge."
We do not follow a "give what you think is ok (but please give)" strategy. Greeters honestly do not like any tipping because what they give comes from their heart not because of any tipping expectation.
If you would like to support the Greeters as a whole you are welcome to donate to the International Greeter Association here.

I am impressed by the extensive hilly wine landscape and the impressive architecture in Eastern Styria. It was a very exciting Greet with a very revealing personal conversation. I highly recommend a Greet in Eastern Styria.
A wonderful afternoon, Styria remains unforgettable: We met a good-humored Helga and learned during a long hike through their East Styrian home much about land and people. Highlights were the visit to the „hill“ with the organic flower gardener and the Buschenschank at the end. We’ll be back!
