Discover Dhaka through a free walk with a Local

Dhaka fascinates with an impossible vibrancy, a mash of historical past and modern future. To really experience it, take a free walking tour with a Greeter do discover the city’s labyrinthine roads; each bend reveals an additional interesting story. Beyond the well trodden path, hundreds of gems wait to be explored, vibrant local bazaars groaning with fruits, intricate textiles, and exhaustion.

Witness history unfolding at the stunning Sadarghat (river terminal) where time honored boats and ferries present an intoxicating prelude to daily life, or step back several hundred years into the winding alleyways of Old Dhaka such as the poignant Sakhari Bazar and imagine you’ve stepped into a different century of vibrant tradition and architecture. To get to any of the many different parts of town, mix with Dhaka Greeters. Our volunteers take you on free personalized tours and explain to you the true nature of Dhaka, including nuances of culture that no book would ever tell you.

A walk in Dhaka just for you and completely free of charge
During an individual walk -we call them Greets-, just for you, your friends or your family, the Dhaka Greeters will show you their city as if you walked the streets with a friend. They are all volunteers, they do it because they love their city and they love to meet people. There is no tipping involved and there will be no groups. It's just for you, your family or your friends.

Remember: A Greet means meeting a local resident to walk around town with you as new friends. The first step will be to talk to the Greeter about the details of your personalized tour. It's not about taking part in a standardized tour, but about exploring the city with an expert volunteer .

Maximum six people!

Our core value #2 reads "Greeters welcome individuals and may serve small groups of up to six people."
The reason is that each Greet should be an opportunity to talk to each other and that seems impossible in bigger groups.
Also important: we do not mingle people from different requests but serve only you (and your friends).

Dhaka Greeters have undertaken to comply with the IGA Core Values.

Meet a local volunteer

Our core value #1  reads "Greeters are volunteers, a friendly face for those visiting a city."
It's true: Our Greeters love their city or town and they are proud to share this with guests.
How could you better discover the most interesting spots of a place?

Free service, no tipping

Our core value #3 reads "Meeting a Greeter is free of charge."
We do not follow a "give what you think is ok (but please give)" strategy. Greeters honestly do not like any tipping because what they give comes from their heart not because of any tipping expectation.
If you would like to support the Greeters as a whole you are welcome to donate to the International Greeter Association here.
