Maastricht is fascinating because this charming city has both a very Dutch character and an unmistakable European charm. Maastricht is known for its lively squares, its impressive blend of new and old architecture, and its delicious cuisine. Stroll through the centuries-old cobblestone streets and embark on a journey through history and modernity. Be sure to stop at the historic Vrijthof or enjoy the spectacular sight of the Boekhandel Dominicanen, a breathtaking church that hides a lending library behind it.
But to really get to know the city, reach out to the Maastricht Greeters. These incredibly friendly local volunteers are happy to guide you through the city for free. Not only do they offer the personal perspective of a longtime local, but they also go beyond the usual routes to show you fascinating hidden spots.

N'oubliez pas : un Greet consiste à rencontrer un habitant de la ville qui vous accompagnera dans vos visites en tant que nouvel ami. La première étape consiste à discuter avec le Greeter des détails de votre visite personnalisée. Il ne s'agit pas de participer à une visite standardisée, mais d'explorer la ville avec un bénévole expert.
Six personnes maximum
Notre valeur fondamentale n° 2 reads "Les Greeters accueillent des individuels et des groupes jusqu’à 6 personnes."
La raison en est que chaque salutation devrait être l'occasion de se parler et cela semble impossible dans des groupes plus grandes.
Autre point important : nous ne mélangeons pas les personnes de différentes demandes mais nous ne servons que vous (et vos amis).
Rencontrez un bénévole local
Notre valeur fondamentale n° 1 reads "Les Greeters sont bénévoles, ils sont un visage accueillant pour le(s) visiteur(s)".
C'est vrai : nos Greeters aiment leur ville ou leur village et ils sont fiers de le partager avec les visiteurs.

Service gratuit, pas de pourboire
Notre valeur fondamentale n° 3 reads "La rencontre avec un Greeter est entièrement gratuite."
Nous ne suivons pas une stratégie du type "donnez ce que vous pensez être correct (mais donnez s'il vous plaît)". Les Greeters n'aiment honnêtement pas les pourboires car ce qu'ils donnent vient du cœur et non d'une quelconque attente de pourboire.

We had a wonderful walk with Greeter Paul! Maastricht is a very pleasant little town, which we had already explored a little the evening before. But on our walk with Paul we discovered lots of new things, including little things along the way that we hadn’t even noticed, even though we had walked past them yesterday. Paul explained the background and was open to all our questions. This also made for great conversations, which we continued in a cozy café after the greet. It was a wonderful experience! Paul, we thank you so much!
Meine Frau und ich hatten das Vergnügen von Sam durch Maastricht geführt zu werden.
Sam ist eine offene, lebendige und sympathische Dame, mit der wir uns sofort gut verstanden.
Sie führte uns unter anderem durch den Stadtteil Wyck, den wir bei unserem vorangegangenen Besuch noch nicht kennengelernt hatten. Es ist ein sehr vitales, sehenswertes Viertel, das an dem Wochenende sogar noch ein Stadtfest feierte.
Sam führte uns also nicht nur zu den bekannten Touristenspots, sondern auch zu den weniger bekannten und besonders sehenswerten Teilen der Stadt.
Dabei sprach sie über viele Aspekte der Stadtgeschichte mit großer Expertise und Klarheit. Sie verzichtete dabei weitgehend auf die bloße Wiedergabe von Zahlen und Fakten, sondern integrierte die Informationen in interessante Geschichten.
Das war höchst informativ und unterhaltsam.
