Doha was founded in 1850 and was first called Al Bida. In 1883, Sheikh Kassim’s battle against the Turkish army took place here. In 1916, the city became the capital of the British protectorate of Qatar, and it was not until 1971 that Doha received its present name and became the capital of an independent state. Doha is known for its modern architecture, high-rise buildings, and luxurious shopping malls. The Country Qatar was described as a famous horse and camel breeding centre during the Umayyad period. In the 8th century, it started benefiting from its commercially strategic position in the Persian Gulf and went on to become a centre of pearl trading. Brilliant experience with a wonderful greeter
Abdur was friendly and open. I appreciated all the information he shared about Doha and also about his life here. We walked around the Souq Waqif and showed me areas there that I didn’t expect to be able to see like the markets for falcons, horses and camels. He has inspired me to consider being a greeter in my home town.
